What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a popular, in-demand treatment because they can address a number of areas of concern. They are injectable synthetic materials that plump the skin at or just beneath the surface, diminishing wrinkles and providing volume where needed. Facial fillers in Upper East Side can either be performed as stand-alone treatments or enhance the results of plastic surgery and achieve comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Dermal Fillers Testimonial

AMAZING in every sense of the word! Dr. Hutchinson is very attentive and super informative. I appreciate her “less is more” approach...classy. I had dermal fillers done, and I look refreshed as opposed to pumped. I LOVE IT! She was very aware of my concerns and recommended the best approach to help me look the way I desired without going overboard.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm® is an FDA approved smooth consistency gel capable of restoring volume to the skin while smoothing away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. This injectable is composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the skin that adds volume and hydration with instant, natural looking results.

Patients can achieve a younger appearance while still maintaining the natural features that define who they are. Juvéderm is most effective in adding volume in areas of soft tissue loss and in filling depressions from deep wrinkles and scars.

What Juvéderm Can Do

  • Reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds (the “smile lines” that run from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth on both sides of the face)
  • Fill in contour deformities in other areas of the face including frown lines, lower eyelid tear trough deformity, and marionette lines at the sides of the mouth
  • Increase volume in the lips and cheekbone areas to create better shape and contour in the face and restore a more youthful appearance

Types of Juvéderm

There are several different types of Juvéderm currently available. Most products —  designated by “XC” — contain lidocaine, which provides local anesthesia at the time of injection and increases patient comfort. The variety and different characteristics that Juvéderm products offer allow treatments to be customized to each unique patient’s individual needs.

  • Juvéderm Ultra: Light texture increases the fullness of thin lips in a natural looking way. Lasts up to one year.
  • Juvéderm Ultra Plus: A more cohesive formula for reducing deeper lines and wrinkles. Lasts up to one year.
  • Juvéderm Voluma: Adds youthful volume and lift to sunken cheekbones or hollow temples. Lasts up to two years.
  • Juvéderm Volbella: Excellent for providing subtly plumping up lips, reducing smokers’ lines, and defining lip borders. Lasts up to one year.
  • Juvéderm Vollure: Improves deep nasolabial folds (smile lines) and marionette lines around the mouth. Lasts up to 18 months.

What Do Juvéderm Results Look Like?

The patient below is an example of results that may be achieved after treatment of the cheeks, lips, and perioral area with Juvéderm Voluma, Ultra Plus, and Ultra. These photographs were taken before treatment and one month afterward. For this patient, 2.6cc of Juvéderm Voluma were injected into the cheek area; 3.05cc of Juvéderm Ultra XC were injected into the parentheses lines, marionette lines, and corners of the mouth lines; and 0.7cc of Juvéderm Ultra was injected into the lips. Restylane

When we are young, the skin is smooth and elastic — with a healthy glow.

As we age, our ability to maintain that smoothness and elasticity diminishes, resulting in skin that becomes drier, thinner, and less able to replenish itself. Our body’s natural collagen and hyaluronic acid levels decrease and our skin becomes looser. This leads to our skin wrinkling and appearing older than it should.

Restylane® (formerly known as Perlane®) is an FDA approved line of injectable Dermal fillers. They are made with a biodegradable gel that adds fullness to the skin and attracts water molecules to the injection sites, further enhancing effectiveness.

Treatment Details for Facial Fillers

Dr. Hutchinson may choose to apply a topical or injectable anesthetic to numb the treatment area and reduce any potential discomfort. The injections will then be administered under the skin into the targeted area to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds. Most people find the injections relatively painless due to the numbing. After the injection, Dr. Hutchinson may gently massage the treated areas. The treatment usually takes about 30 minutes, depending on the type of correction you want.

Results are visible immediately and will continue to improve over the next few days as any swelling and bruising subside. Results are expected to last at least 6-9 months, but in many cases, may last up to a year or even longer. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages to help minimize the risk of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. You will also need to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for approximately 48 hours.
