Cold temperatures and blustery wind conditions don’t elicit warm thoughts for many of us, but there are some advantages to the winter season when it comes to looking your best. In anticipation of the warmer months, here are a few pointers to help you manage these chilly days:
Skin: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. You will probably notice that your facial skin is soaking up your moisturizing cream. The skin on other parts of your body, like your hands, may also seem drier than usual. Well hydrated skin looks younger and smoother with fewer wrinkles, so continue with your normal daily skin care routine but definitely make sure you don’t skimp on rehydrating your skin with moisturizer.
Diet: It may be tempting to snuggle up by the fireplace and indulge in some less than healthy eating habits, but don’t forget all those layers of clothing will be coming off in a few months! Berries and nuts are full of nutritious ingredients and anti-oxidants to help you stay healthy and energized.
Exercise: Unless the thermostat dips way low, exercising outdoors can be more enjoyable than in hot summer weather. And with plenty of outdoor sports activities available – ice skating, downhill and cross country skiing, sledding – getting a great workout is easier than you might think. Exercising for at least 30 minutes three or more times a week has been shown to produce the greatest health benefits.
Beauty procedures: For quick non-surgical fixes like Botox and fillers, there is no down time – these procedures may be scheduled any time that suits your schedule. For most surgical procedures, you need to allow anywhere from 1 week to 6 months for the final result, so plan ahead now. Are you thinking about an eyelid lift to correct those bags under your eyes or droopy upper lids? The bright winter sun reflecting off the snow is a great excuse for wearing dark sunglasses as you heal from an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty). Diet and exercise not enough to get you the results you want and you’re still left with those nagging fat deposits around your belly, hips or thighs? Liposuction can remove stubborn fat and help reshape and contour your body. Since the ultimate outcome takes a few months, you’ll be able to show off your figure just in time for the beach and bathing suit season.
Any decision to undergo cosmetic plastic surgery should be made in the context of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
