Botox® has been used for cosmetic enhancements for years to effectively rejuvenate the face and neck by diminishing forehead wrinkles, frown lines and crows’ feet, and softening muscle bands in the neck. The product must be injected into the muscles which become paralyzed so that the overlying skin becomes smoother and wrinkle free. A new technique involves “threading” botulinum toxin along the length of the muscle, and may be suitable for patients who have less than optimal results with the traditional injection technique. As with any aesthetic procedure, Botox® treatments should be performed by a qualified physician with a thorough understanding of underlying anatomy.
Depending on your concerns, Botox® may be used to diminish frown lines and lessen an angry or worried appearance. It may also be suitable for correcting asymmetry, such as when the eyebrows are at different heights or have different arches. When used in the lateral brow, it can create a subtle elevation and lessen the hooding in the upper eyelids. In the neck, it can improve contour and reduce bands to provide a more youthful look.
As one of the many cosmetic treatments available for non-surgical rejuvenation, Botox® may be combined with surgery including eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) or facelift, or with other services such as fillers or fat injections, laser skin resurfacing and minimally invasive procedures.
