Patients who are unhappy with their noses and are looking to improve their appearance may benefit from a minimally invasive surgical technique which uses fat or cartilage grafts, a procedure recently presented at the latest American Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting. This type of rhinoplasty does not require the more extensive incisions and surgery needed for traditional nasal surgery. Instead, it relies on the use of harvested fat and diced cartilage which is injected into the nose to improve contour and shape. Fat and cartilage are obtained from the patient and so there is no threat of allergic reaction. These natural fillers may be used to improve the appearance of the dorsum or tip of the nose, as well as to address asymmetry. In some cases, fat and cartilage grafts may be used in addition to rhinoplasty surgery, where a combination of techniques may produce the desired result. Rhinoplasty surgery may be performed in conjunction with other aesthetic plastic surgery procedures, such as eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), facial skin rejuvenation, or facelift surgery.
