Now that we’ve adjusted our clocks and the weather is finally warming up, it’s time to start thinking about tuning our bodies and getting ready to shed the camouflaging winter fashions in favor of summer styles. For all of us, and especially those of us traveling to warmer climes for spring break, remember to apply sunscreen any time you go outside, and reapply after exercise or swimming. Sunscreen with SPF 30 (SPF 45 for the face) or higher is the best way to prevent sun damage, which manifests as wrinkles, blemishes and aging of the skin. Spring time is also a perfect time to start focusing on the rest of your body. Diet and exercise should be part of your daily routine, but for those stubborn areas where the fat just won’t go away, like the belly or thighs (saddle bags) in women, or love handles in men, liposuction offers a great solution with noticeable results. The procedure may be safely performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, and benefits from minimal downtime and quick recovery.
Now is also a great time to undergo minimally invasive facial rejuvenation procedures, such as laser resurfacing to smooth out fine lines and reduce pigmentation imperfections, and Botox and fillers to improve the overall appearance and contour of your face. After a laser procedure sun avoidance is key, so most patients prefer to undergo the treatment in the spring or wait until the fall. And since the results of Botox and hyaluronic acid fillers (e.g. Juvederm) usually last several months, having those procedures now would allow you to benefit from their effects through the summer. As an alternative to Juvederm, fat injections offer a more permanent alternative for volume restoration in the face, producing a fuller, more youthful appearance. Botox is also a very effective treatment for axillary hyperhydrosis, or excessive underarm sweating, and this is of considerable benefit to relieve wetness and odor particularly in summer heat.
All of these treatments may be combined with other cosmetic surgery procedures, including eyelid lift (blepharoplasty), breast enhancement with breast augmentation (with saline or silicone implants) or breast lift (mastopexy), and nasal surgery (rhinoplasty). Any treatment plan should be custom designed to meet your wishes and expectations so that you can look and feel your best.
