Most patients who are interested in facelift procedures are looking to restore their facial appearance to a younger version of themselves. Prospective patients often voice concerns about looking unnatural, operated on, or “done”.

Although cosmetic surgeries such as facelifts and neck lifts are more widely discussed publicly, patients generally prefer not having an exaggerated appearance or distortion of their physical attributes. There seems to be greater interest in keeping others guessing about whether or not they have undergone a certain procedure, if any at all, rather than completely altering their appearance.

Facelift surgeries have evolved over time, with newer techniques emphasizing natural results, short scars, and quick recovery. As with any aesthetic operation, pre-operative evaluation is paramount in determining which areas of their face patients would like to address. Some are primarily concerned with flattening of their cheekbones and wrinkled skin, whereas others are mostly unhappy with prominent jowls and lax neck skin.

Different facelift techniques have evolved to address these areas, focusing on specific tissues and anatomical planes to create a natural appearance that will last for years. Restoring soft tissue contours and replacing fat lost during the aging process are important in addition to redraping and removing excess skin.

For optimal results, some patients benefit from complementary procedures, such as upper and lower eyelid lift, brow lift, or neck lift.
